Sony Playstation The Sony playstation really was a successful console for the 32 bit era. After sony's partnership with Nintendo fell through (sony had made the fx chip for the super nintendo which gave the console better music quality and were going to make an add on for the super nintendo so it could play disks), sony decided to go into the games market themselves and it proved a very successful move for them. The playstation managed to make games more adult for example it would host the tomb raider, grand theft auto and gran turismo franchises, which proved extremely popular for older gamers. The playstation was also the first major games console to use disks instead of cartridges and also was the first console to ship 100 million units!!
