The sega megadrive (genesis in america) was released on October 29, 1988. It was a very successful console with 39.70 million units sold worldwide, at the time it may not have been as good graphically and musically as the super nintendo but it was neck and neck with its rival. It was really was one of the first major console. The megadrive also gave birth to a video game icon which would be a proper rival to mario, and that character was sonic the hedgehog! The megadive also tried to appeal to a more mature audience, for example it had uncensored versions of the mortal kombat series (although nintendo had uncensored versions later on) The megadrive also had alot of sports games and more mature "cool" game characters eg. sonic, kid chameleon and toe jam and earl. It was a really good console it was sega's best selling console and it had a great roster of games that were available for it, so check out some of the games thats been reviewed for it!
